Both teams had key players missing. Balzan had Elkin Serrano Orlando replacing the suspended Bruno Gilio de Oliveira while Alfred Effiong and Lydon Micallef both started on the bench and Paul Fenech still ruled out injured. Missing for Pembroke were Zoran Levnaic and Paltemio Barbetti both suspended. Sunday Eboh, Ugochukwo Akuto, Oleksander Maksymov and Adrian Borg were on the starting lineup while Borche Manevski and Johnatan Bernardo Mariano were dropped.
Pembroke went close on the 6th minute when off a cross by Asani Djeljilj from the left, Oleksandr Maksymov’s first time effort rebounded off the foot of the upright.
However Balzan reacted and managed to take the lead in the 13th minute thanks to BOJAN KALJEVIC whose low shot, from an acute angle on the left, beat goalkeeper Calleja Cremona.
Pembroke failed to react and Balzan doubled the score on the 32nd minute when, after being served by Alan Da Silva Souza, SAMIR ARAB dribbled his way into the box and concluded with a powerful drive, giving goalkeeper Calleja Cremona no chance.
Three minutes later onrushing Calleja Cremona turned into a corner an attempt by Alan Da Silva Souza.
Balzan insisted and a minute before half time they made it 3–0. BOJAN KALJEVIC dribbled past a defender before slotting the ball past Calleja Cremona.
Pembroke came better and on the 57th minute a goal by Ugochukwo Akuto was annulled as the player was ruled offside.
On the 63rd minute, following a fine cross by Manolito Micallef, Adrian Borg missed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back for Pembroke when he found himself unmarked and in front of an empty goal managed to hit his effort wide.
Two minutes later, Calleja Cremona turned into corner with difficulty an attempt by Bojan Kaljevic.
On the other side, Ugochukwo Akuto missed the target when put through by Siraj Arab and the same player was denied by keeper Ivan Janjusevic some minutes later.
On the 88th minute, BOJAN KALJEVIC sealed the issue, gathering a hat trick and making it 4–0 for Balzan, as he converted a penalty, after he was brought down in the box by goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona.
