Balzan football team is the official football team for the village in Malta of 4,000 inhabitants with the same name. Balzan FC has always been a small club, with a big heart.

Balzan football club was established in 1937 and for the majority of its history the club played its football in the lower divisions of Maltese football. The club won their first ever promotion to Malta’s Premier Division, the top division of Maltese football, in the season 2002/3 – although unfortunately this success did not last and the cub was relegated in the subsequent seasons back down to the Second Division.

Thanks to some inspired signings and appointments in season 2007/8, the club steadily improved and rose from the Second Division of Maltese football to win promotion again to the Premier Division, the top division of Maltese, in season 2010/11.

In season 2016/2017 the club has finished its 6th consecutive season in Malta’s Premier Division and ended up in the much coveted 2nd spot on the table – which gave the club the right to participate in the UEFA Europa League 2017/2018 for the third time in its history.

So what is the vision for the Balzan club for the foreseeable future?

Challenging for a major honour in the Maltese Premier League  and FA Trophy remains the club’s ambitious target – although of course this will continue to rely on the generosity of the club’s sponsors and the continued help of many volunteers who give up much of their time to help the club operate.

But more than this, in the last few years the club has significantly upgraded its Academy’s coaches, facilities and programmes and can now boast to being one of the best elite Academies for young players in Malta. The aim of this Academy is to develop and produce players of sufficient quality in the years ahead that can make it to the Balzan FC first team and that can help us achieve our target of remaining one of the leading clubs of Maltese football for many years to come.
