Sunday 5th March 2017: Balzan continued on their positive run to keep the top place, as they found no difficulty to beat Pembroke A with a heavy score of 5 – 2.

Balzan had three changes from the team which defeated Mosta as Ivan Janjusevic, Samir Arab and the suspended Ryan Fenech were replace by Christian Cassar, Steve Bezzina and Paul Fenech. On the other hand, Pembroke made various changes with Fredrick Tabone, Miguel Attard, Daren Falzon, Zoran Levnaic and Sunday Eboh taking place of Matthew Calleja Cremona, Adrian Borg, Paltemio Barbetti and suspended Owen Bugeja and Brooke Farrugia.

Balzan came out looking for an early goal and in the 4th minute Matteo Picollo’s first timer finished just wide.

Balzan took the lead in the 11th minute, when in a loso effort ALAN DA SILVA SOUZA unleashed a powerful inswinger from the left surprising goalkeeper Fredrick Tabone, with the ball ending into the net.

Pembroke levelled matters on the 18th minute when of a corner kick taken by Darren Falzon, unmarked GO NAKAOKA finished home past helpless goalkeeper Christian Cassar.

In the 32nd minute, a shot to goal by Matteo Piciollo was deflected into a corner by Tonci Radovnikovic.

Four minutes later a diagonal shot by Paul Fenech ended few inched wide. And a minute later goalkeeper Fredrick Tabone saved well over a Samir Arab shot, from outside the box.

In the 42nd minute Balzan regained the lead, ALAN DA SILVA SOUZA received a pass inside the area and from close range slotted the ball home past Fredrick Tabone.

In the first half added time, Pembroke threatened again with a Darren Falzon diect free-kick from outside the box but Christian Cassar save with some difficulty.

In the second half Balzan continue domination with a lot of pressing and good passes.

In the 55th minute Bojan Kaljevic picked Matteo Piciollo’s pass and tested goalkeeper with a powerful grounder but Fredrick Tabone saved well.

On the hour Balzan increased the score, thanks to a personal effort by ALAN DA SILVA SOUZA who dribbled past three defenders, made his way into the box and score his third personal goal.

In the 65th minute, Balzan increased the score to 4 – 1. Only one minute after replacing Alan Da Silva Souza, Abdelkarim Nafti released BOJAN KALJEVIC who in turn slotted the ball, with an angled shot from the left, past Fredrick Tabone.

On the 69th minute, Balzan replaced Alfred Effiong with Lydon Micallef and Justin Grioli came in for Clive Brincat.

Balzan scored their 5th goal on the 74th minute when substitute Lydon Micallef served MATTEO PICOLLO whose rising shot from an acute angle gave Fredrick Tabone no chance.

Pembroke scored a consolation goal on the 83rd minute when a direct free-kick from an acute angle by DARREN FALZON stunned goalkeeper Christian Casar and finished at the bak of the net.
