Balzan secured the services of Malta national team striker Luke Montebello on loan from Birkirkara. A product of Birkirkara, Luke Montebello joined Italian side Livorno in a joint-ownership deal in summer 2011 and the following summer, the Italian club signed him from Birkirkara. As football player, in February 2001, Andrea Pisanu joined Hellas Verona FC from hometown club Cagliari Calcio.
