Saturday 20th August 2016 – Balzan defeated Mosta by the odd goal in five to collect their first three points in the BOV Premier League.

Balzan took control of proceedings from the outset and on six minutes Alfred Effiong picked Terence Agius inside the area but the young midfielder fired just wide.

Mosta responded on 23 minutes when Martin Vleck dribbled past two defenders and his low drive was saved by Balzan goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic.

Balzan took the lead on 33 minutes when Bojan Kaljevic fed TERENCE AGIUS inside the area and the Balzan midfielder beat Yenz Cini with a low drive.

Balzan doubled their lead on 41 minutes when ALFRD EFFIONG connected to Justin Grioli’s free-kick to head past Yenz Cini.

Mosta refused to throw in the towel and they pulled a goal back on 53 minutes.

MARTIN VLECK dribbled past two Balzan defenders before hitting a curling shot that flew into the top corner of the net.

Balzan restored their two-goal lead on 62 minutes when Adrian Caruana was adjudged to have fouled Lydon Micallef inside the area and from the resultant penalty BOJAN KALJEVIC drilled the ball home.

But Mosta kept fighting and they reduced the gap a second time on 76 minutes when Paul Fenech handled the ball inside the area and VICTOR OSEGHALE converted the resultant penalty.
