Mosta returned to winning ways as they came from behind to beat Balzan by an odd goal in five and departed away from the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Balzan succumbed to their fifteenth defeat of the season and found themselves very close to relegation.

In the opening minutes of the match Balzan were the first to threaten when, following a corner-kick taken by Milos Mijic, Michael Johnson’s header was cleared off the line by a Mosta defender.

Later on, Balzan goalkeeper Rudy Briffa made a fine save over a shot, from the edge of the area, by Johann Bezzina.

On the other side, Mosta goalkeeper Ini Akpan blocked well a shot taken from an acute angle by Aleksa Andrejic.

In the 37th minute, Rudy Briffa was forced into a spectacular save, diverting the ball into a corner, when Geoffrey Acheampong’s shot from the edge of the area took a twist towards the goal.

Just before the break, against the run of play, Balzan forged ahead when MILOS MIJIC placed the ball at the back of the net when served by Milan Djuric.

After the interval, Balzan insisted as Uros Ljubomirac tested Ini Akpan with a shot from outside the area but the Mosta goalkeeper halted his chance.

In another attempt to goal, Milan Duric squandered a chance to double Balzan’s lead when from point-blank range his shot sailed over the bar.

Uros Ljubomirac threatened again when he struck a shot that Akpan blocked into a corner.

From the resultant corner kick, Uros Ljubomirac connected but his effort was cleared into a corner once again.

Balzan continued to pile the pressure on Mosta, with a Milan Duric’s header going just wide from Akpan’s goal.

However in the 73rd minute, it was Mosta who found the net. They equalised when, off a cross by Clayton Failla from the left, SUNDAY AKINBULE chested down the ball inside the area before hitting past goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.

Five minutes later, Mosta took the lead. Boubakary Diarra served substitute MICHAEL MIFSUD who in turn slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

Seven minutes from time, Mosta wrapped up the win when they pounced on a loose ball in the midfield with Michael Mifsud latching the ball towards SUNDAY AKINBULE who fired into an empty net.

In the dying minutes of the game, Ini Akpan was crucial to Mosta’s victory with a fantastic save on Bojan Kaljevic’s header.

One minute into the added time, Balzan reduced the gap with a consolation goal thanks to MILOS ZLATKOVIC.

Deep into stoppage time, Mosta were reduced to ten men when Luis Riascos was given a second yellow card for a tactical foul.
